Volunteer

Our dedicated volunteers are the heart of our organization, delivering meals—rain or shine—to those in need. They come from all walks of life, including students, professionals, retirees, community groups, churches, and businesses. For many clients, these volunteers are the only people they see each day, and the experience is deeply rewarding for both meal recipients and volunteers.

Each day, GIMOW delivers 200 meals across 19 routes on the island. Routes serve 10–13 recipients and typically take under an hour to complete. The number of meals we can provide depends on how many volunteers are available. All meals are prepared and distributed from our office at Moody Methodist Church, 2803 53rd Street in Galveston.

Individuals can serve as volunteers on 3 levels:

  • As a weekly volunteer, delivering meals for a specific route on the same day each week

  • As a member of a monthly team, delivering a route once a month on a certain day of the week

  • As a substitute, delivering occasionally for a weekly volunteer as needed

Volunteers must be age 18 or older and have reliable transportation with valid insurance and a driver’s license and be able to pass a background check. We’ll provide a short orientation and a cool t-shirt when you sign up!

If you have one hour a week to give

you will be richly rewarded by this opportunity to serve Galvestonians who need our help.
